Osaka HEP 5 Ferris Wheel, Kidzania, Kobe Zoo, Orix Buffaloes

June 25 th (Saturday) We are continually reminded of how fragile life can be. On the day we were headed to Koka, Japan, the trains were delayed by a "Human Damage Accident." Someone had stepped out onto the train tracks when an oncoming train was approaching. We didn't witness the horrific event but we gave up on traveling very far for the day.

We looked out the window in Osaka and came up with Plan B. Lunch and a ferris wheel.

June 26th (Sunday) We took the train to a near by stop (Hoshien). The Hanshin Tigers' home stadium is here. The story goes that after their 1985 series win, the fans celebrated by having fans who looked like the players, jump into the canal. Since nobody looked like Randy Bass, the fans threw in Colonel Sanders (a statue from a local KFC). Years later the Colonel was found in the canal and is now on display back at the KFC.

June 27 (Monday) Hannah and Spencer learned about Kidzania from friends at school. Kidzania is a 2 story, indoor, town. Kids work the stations and kids are the customers.

Hannah's first stop was the beauty parlor where she painted the nails of a young customer.

She bottled a Coke in honor of her mother/Grandma Anne/G-Ma.
Spencer worked the juice station and then the Ice Cream Parlor.
Hannah was off to the Lab to create hand cream.
 Spencer worked a local fire.
 Hannah at the sweet factory.
Spencer's favorite was conducting the Hanshin Railway.
June 28th (Tuesday) While Matt worked, Amy took the kids to the Kobe Zoo.
Kobe Zoo has Japan's only Chinese Giant Panda. We were all hot and melting.
We loved this mama and joey.
June 30 (Thursday) Matt found this little shop stuck in the train station. This man made our hanko stamp (a family's last name, used in signing official documents).
July 1st (Friday) We took in an Osaka Orix game with fellow Fulbrighter and her family.
When the boys got bored, Max pulled out the Nintendo DS and Spencer looked like, "Now you're speaking my language!"
